National Opera en Ballet

Nationale Opera en Ballet (formerly Het Muziektheater ) is a theater building in Amsterdam that was specially built for the performances of operas , ballets , and other genres of musical theater . The building has had its new name since 2014 after the merger of Het Muziektheater , De Nederlandse Opera and Het Nationale Ballet . The opera and drama companies used to play together in the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam .

history

The building was designed by the architects Wilhelm Holzbauer and Cees Dam. It was officially opened as Het Muziektheater on September 23, 1986 . Since then it has been the home of De Nederlandse Opera and Het Nationale Ballet . In addition, other theater companies also appear as guest performers.

After the merger of De Nederlandse Opera , Het Nationale Ballet and Het Muziektheater Amsterdam into a new institution called Nationale Opera & Ballet was announced in 2013 , the building has also been called "Nationale Opera en Ballet", popularly known as Stopera , since 2014 it is also used by the city administration. The name is a combination of St adthaus and Opera ( St adhuis s opera is).
