National Social Democratic Party Asat

The National Social Democratic Party "Azat" (abbreviation NSDP "Azat", Kazakh Жалпыұлттық социал-демократиялық партия (ЖСДП) , Russian Общенациональная социал-демократическая партия "Азат" ) is a social democratic party in Kazakhstan and the main opposition party in the country.

The National Social Democratic Party Asat emerged from the merger of the National Social Democratic Party of Kazakhstan and the Asat party (Kazakh for freedom ). The chairman is Sharmachan Tujaqbai .

The former National Social Democratic Party of Kazakhstan was approved by the Ministry of Justice (Kazakhstan) on September 10, 2006 and currently has 140,000 members. In the last parliamentary elections on August 18, 2007, it only got 269,310 votes or 4.54% and thus failed to pass the five percent hurdle . The registration of the historic Asat party was revised by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan on March 17, 2006.

The party maintains representations in all 14 regions of the republic and in the two cities of Nur-Sultan (Astana until 2019) and Almaty . Its priorities are the establishment of a democratic, socially oriented state based on the rule of law , the development of a modern and innovative economy and humanitarian policy. The party works to realize the values ​​of the international democratic movement and according to the principles of freedom , justice and solidarity in politics.

The NSDP has been an associated member of the Socialist International since 2012 .
