The Vasyl Stefanyk Subcarpathian National University ( Ukrainian Прикарпатський Національний Університет імені Василя Стефаника Prykarpatskyj Nazionalnyj Uniwersytet imeni Wassylja Stefanyka ) is a university in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk in the Ukraine . It has existed as an educational institution with its predecessor, the Pedagogical Institute, since 1940. In 1992 the institution was elevated to a university. The name refers to the Ukrainian poet and activist Wassyl Stefanyk .

Today, 15,479 students, who are taught by 724 teachers, including 123 professors, study at the university (as of 2020).
