National bloc (France)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bloc national was a center-right coalition in the Third Republic that lasted from 1919 to 1924.

In the parliamentary elections in 1919 , in addition to the moderate parties Fédération républicaine , Alliance démocratique and Alliance libérale, some radical right-wing groups stood for the Bloc national . The Bloc national demanded the continuation of the Union sacrée , which existed during the First World War. Ideologically, the parties involved were mainly connected by patriotism and fear of Bolshevism . The right placed the importance of veterans in the foreground and criticized the Versailles Peace Treaty as too lax. Paul Deschanel (Alliance démocratique) became president, but was replaced in the same year by the conservative Alexandre Millerand for health reasons . In 1924 the left camp ( Cartel des gauches ) won the election. As a result, the right-wing coalition broke up.
