Session of the Greek Parliament at the end of the 19th century. Oil painting by N. Orlof

The museum building is the former parliament building. The neo-classical building at Stadiou-Straße 13 was designed by François-Louis-Florimond Boulanger (* 1807; † 1875) in 1858; the Athens architect Panagiotis Kalkos played a key role in its execution . The Greek parliament met here until 1935. The plenary hall has been preserved unchanged, the other rooms have been prepared for museum purposes.

The exhibition is structured chronologically and labeled throughout in Greek and partly in English , but little didactically prepared. A leaflet is available for German-speaking visitors that describes the content of the individual rooms in key words. Some relic-like objects, especially from the War of Independence at the beginning of the 19th century, are exhibited, as well as memorabilia from kings and politicians. The underlying political and historical development, however, is not explained. For visitors who are not familiar with the history of Greece, the exhibition looks like a national museum of local history .

The exhibition is open every day, except Monday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
