National Coordinating Committee for Democratic Change
The National Coordinating Committee for Democratic Change of the Syrian Forces ( Arabic هيئة التنسيق الوطنية لقوى التغيير الديمقراطي السورية, DMG haiʾat at-tansīq al-waṭanī li-quwā t-taġyīr ad-dīmuqrāṭī as-sūriyya , English National Coordination Body, French Comité national pour le changement démocratique , abbreviated to CNCD ) is a Syrian opposition bloc made up of 10 left-wing political parties and 3 Kurdish parties and independent political activists including youth activists operating in Syria and around the world.
It is the only opposition alliance willing to negotiate with the government. The National Coordinating Committee and the Syrian National Council together form the two main factions of the Syrian opposition. The former was founded in the course of the Syrian civil war in September 2011 and opposes the government of Bashar al-Assad .
Chairman is Hussein Abdel Azim , the spokesman is Haytham Manna ; another prominent member is Monzer Makhous . The headquarters of the coordinating committee is Damascus . The committee follows a secular course and consists, among other things, of left-wing and Kurdish groups. Overall, the committee mainly includes secular and nationalist groups, independent dissidents and Kurdish parties, all of which have their base within Syria. One of them is an offshoot of the Syrian Communist Party .
An attack by demonstrators on representatives of the coordination committee in front of the Arab League in Cairo on November 9, 2011 caused a sensation .
attitude
The National Coordinating Committee shares some positions with other opposition groups. In contrast to the Syrian National Council, which rejects a dialogue with the Assad government, the coordinating committee pursues peaceful protest against the regime and advocates a solution in which the Syrian government is to be convinced of the need for change and a dialogue with the opposition. The crisis in the country can only be resolved through dialogue. The aim is a safe and peaceful transition from a state of despotism to a democracy. The coordination committee sees itself more firmly anchored within Syria and accuses the National Council of being influenced by Western states.
