The National Park Khorgo Terkhiin tsagaan Nuur ( Mongolian Хорго-Тэрхийн цагаан нуурын байгалийн цогцолборт газар, Khorgo-Terkhiin tsagaan nuuryn baigaliin tsogtsolbort gadsar ) is located in Mongolia province (Aimag) Archangai the northern edge of Changai Mountains . The Chorgo Terchiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park covers an area of ​​773 km². It is named after the extinct volcano Chorgo , the area around which was placed under protection as early as 1965, and after Lake Tsagaan Nuur . The reserve was expanded in 1995 and declared a national park.

The Chorgo volcano is located about 10 km east of Lake Tsagaan Nuur, which is 2060 m above sea level. d. M. is located. It was created when lava flows dammed up a river during the volcanic eruption 7700 years ago, so that the rising water level filled part of the plain. The fish-rich lake is 16 km long, 4–6 km wide and up to 20 m deep. Its name translates as "White Lake" and is based on the fact that the lake is covered by ice until the end of May. The main outflow of the lake is the Suman River , which leaves the lake in the east and flows in places between dark basalt . The main tributary is the Terch River .

In the western part of the lake is the small island of Chandmani Tolgoi , where cormorants and seagulls breed. It must not be entered.

The Chorgo Terchiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park is one of the main attractions of Mongolia. There are several yurt camps to accommodate tourists on its north and south banks .

Not far to the east of the national park is the district town of Tariat , where various authorities and schools are based.
