Native gel electrophoresis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A native gel electrophoresis describes electrophoretic separation process of proteins in a gel , in which the native protein folding is retained, d. that is, there is no denaturation .

principle

In contrast to SDS-PAGE, sample preparation takes place without the proteins being boiled. The disulfide bridges are occasionally obtained by omitting reducing agents such as mercaptoethanol or dithiothreitol . Due to the exclusive use of mild nonionic surfactants in gel electrophoresis , in contrast to SDS-PAGE, separation takes place only according to the isoelectric point (or the net charge density) and the hydrodynamic volume , not according to the molecular mass .
