Nativity ( lat. Nativitas for birth , emergence, generation) is a term from astrology and describes the state of the stars when a person is born.

Originally the expression meant "being born and everything in itself that is directly related to it". Until the early 20th century, this also generally referred to the time of birth or the hour of birth; In the population statistics, nativity meant something like the birth rate. In astrology it is understood as the supposed influence that the stars and their position at the moment of birth are supposed to have on the fate of the respective person. The belief that conclusions about future events or the personal development of a person could be drawn from the position and movement of the heavenly bodies was particularly widespread in ancient times .
