Nature and medicine
Natur und Medizin eV is a non-governmental organization that advocates the integration of naturopathic methods and homeopathy ( complementary medicine ) into the (German) health system. Natur und Medizin eV was founded in 1983 by the then German Federal President Karl Carstens and his wife Veronica Carstens as a support association of the Karl and Veronica Carstens Foundation .

Purpose of the association according to the statutes : “ Nature and Medicine eV is the support group of the Karl and Veronica Carstens Foundation. It was founded with the aim of combining university medicine, naturopathy and homeopathy as partners and educating patients about the possibilities and limits of complementary medicine. "
history
The Carstens couple founded the Karl and Veronica Carstens Foundation in 1982 . In a few letters to Veronica Carstens the citizens offered their help and asked to support the foundation through a sponsoring membership. Since this is not possible for legal reasons, the Fördergemeinschaft Natur und Medizin eV was founded in 1983.

Natur und Medizin eV is registered as a non-profit association in the register of associations at the Essen District Court . The board of the association consists of four people (chair: Anna Paul, Beatrix Sonanini, Andreas Michalsen, Peter Anders), the general assembly consists of 14 ordinary members with voting rights.
According to its own information, the association has around 30,000 non-voting sponsoring members (as of 2015) who pay an annual contribution of at least 36 euros. There is also an undisclosed number of one-time donors.
According to its own information, Natur und Medizin eV is financed exclusively through contributions from supporting members, individual donations, bequests, endowments and donations. In the 32 years of existence, the association has raised a total of around 35 million euros in funds. Around 28 million euros of this went to the Carstens Foundation for research projects. The remaining part was used for statutory information work (patient events, telephone advice, printed matter) and administration.

The topics and goals of the Carstens Foundation are prepared by Natur und Medizin eV and presented in a way that is understandable for laypeople, for example in the members' magazine or in various patient guides.
The association organizes nationwide information events on medical topics.
Publications
The range of information provided by Natur und Medizin eV includes the patient guide book series, a bimonthly magazine, including the “Complementary Medicine Compass” series, a qualified doctor and clinic search service as well as personal advice from naturopathic doctors.
