Natural monument cave park

The Höhlenpark natural monument (also called Höllenpark ) is located in the Höhlenpark parcel in the municipality of Bezau in the Bregenz Forest , Vorarlberg , Austria . This natural monument consists of a large number of fallen rocks, some as high as a house, which, among other things, created cave-like passages.

The parcel Höhlenpark and this natural monument Höhlenpark ( Höllenpark ) are located at the western end of the municipality of Bezau in the Kriechere district at about 735  m above sea level. A. It is around 300 meters as the crow flies to the Unterhalde district and around 600 meters to the center of Bezau.

Emergence

This natural monument, which has been protected since 1955, was created by the sliding of limestone layers hanging down the valley , which were deposited on a clay layer of marl. The addition of water made the marl layer greasy and the limestone layers slid down to the valley, broke into large blocks and remained on the rock slope below. This process took place frequently in the Bregenzerwald and, among other things, had a significant geological and topographical impact on the valley (see also the Rappenfluh landslide in Hittisau for the Molasse zone ). The natural monument is a retreat for nocturnal animals as well as a wintering place for bats and butterflies. These withdraw into the covered caves created here , which are between five and over 24 meters deep.

On one of the solitary boulders, the Klausostua, there is a small pavilion with a view of the village, accessed by a narrow footbridge. A nature trail has been laid out in the cave park, with 45 panels providing information about the flora along the way.
