Special folding natural monument in the former Hesborn quarry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The special folding natural monument in the former Hesborn quarry with a size of 0.14 ha is located on the northeastern edge of the village of Hesborn in the urban area of Hallenberg . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2004 with the Hallenberg landscape plan.

Area description

The former quarry is located on the outskirts of Hesborn. The quarry floor is used as a fairground for the village. There is also a barbecue area in the Bruch. The steep walls are fenced off. The steep walls and scree areas in front of them have been designated as natural monuments. The geological folding processes in the silica-lime horizon can be seen on the rock walls. These folds in the Kieselkalk horizon are the reason for the designation as ND.
