In his will of November 7, 1591, Hermann von Hatzfeldt ordered the establishment of a hospital in Wissen. This foundation was subsequently confirmed by his heirs. The hospital is then mentioned in the visit report of the then official from Bonn, who had received the order to make a visit in 1697 from Joseph Clemens von Bayern , Archbishop of Cologne.

The hospital was destroyed in the great fire of Wissen in 1788. It was rebuilt between 1789 and 1791. In 1871 the Franciscan Sisters from the mother house in Olpe took care of the residents. The hospital's financial situation became more and more acute in the period that followed. A new foundation from Princess Clara von Hatzfeldt finally made it possible to build a new building in Friesenhagen on May 14, 1914. The purpose of the foundation at the time prevented the hospital from becoming a modern type of hospital.

Hospital assets were lost due to hyperinflation after the First World War . There was no use as a hospital in either the First or Second World War . On April 8, 1945, Friesenhagen was liberated by American troops . The hospital fund and with it St. Klara House was then taken over by the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne in 1954 . The association "Caritasheim Friesenhagen eV" was responsible for this. In 1964 the first major renovation work took place. 20 people were then cared for in the facility. A second major construction project was completed in 1987. The facility then offered space for around 50 residents. In the period that followed, the institution's financial situation worsened and, from the mid-1990s, a new sponsor for Haus St. Klara was sought. In 2003 the facility was finally taken over by GSS Gesundheits-Service Siegen, a wholly-owned subsidiary of St. Marien Hospital Siegen . GmbH taken over. Finally, in 2006 an extension was built. Since then, the facility has provided space for 75 residents.
