The Naturfreundejugend Österreich is an independent division of the leisure and environmental organization Naturfreunde Österreich and, according to its own information, comprises around 50,000 Naturfreunde members aged up to 30 years. According to the association's statutes, the focus of the work is on people in their sustainable relationship with nature. The association is based in the Naturfreunde federal organization in Vienna and operates an office in Wels . The events, which are mainly offered locally by the local groups in all federal states, are aimed at children, young people, young adults or families and should be affordable for everyone.

Aim and purpose

The aim is to convey nature experiences to the children and young people, to promote the community spirit and to contribute to the preservation of our natural basis of life. The Naturfreundejugend Austria is committed to a society that is built on the basic values ​​of freedom, equality, justice and solidarity. It supports the lively development and constant renewal of democracy in all areas of life. The association resolutely opposes all military, racist, sexist, nationalist, fascist and totalitarian tendencies with all democratic means. The association acts according to social, charitable and non-profit criteria as well as advocating for a better social and legal position for children and young people in the state and society.

Focus of work

"Team Alpin", "Sports" and "Nature + Environment" were defined as the thematic divisions. Team Alpin includes sport climbing in indoor and outdoor facilities, mountain adventure weeks and alpine training. The sporting focus is on alpine skiing as well as cycling and water sports. The Naturfreundejugend supports campaigns for climate and environmental protection as well as the sensitization of young people for nature. The Naturefriends Youth awards the “Golden Marble” environmental prize annually for exemplary nature conservation projects with the participation of children and young people. As part of environmental work camps, young volunteers work free of charge every summer in the construction, renovation or design of huts and hiking trails and also have the opportunity to complete a PULS media internship.

Since 2010, a course program has been offered under the name "Outdoor Academy" with a focus on experiential education and trend sports. The aim is the training and further education of volunteer child carers and youth leaders. Every year, the Naturfreundejugend organizes the Team Master Bouldering team competition for young climbers. Offers for holiday camps of the local groups and regional organizations are collected and published by the federal organization before the summer. Every spring and autumn, the Naturfreundejugend sends the youth magazine “friends” and the children's pages “Murmelpost” to its members between 6 and 19 years of age.
