---|---|
The Lower Austrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park is located in the Mostviertel , in the extreme southwest of Lower Austria . It is entirely located in the municipality of Hollenstein an der Ybbs . The Eisenwurzen , which gives it its name, are actually a much larger region and also extend into neighboring Styria . The nature park encompasses the entire Seeaubachtal and most of the Hammerbachtal. The Hammerbach is a tributary of the Ybbs .
Natural sights
The nature park is located in the northern Limestone Alps , which here reach up to an altitude of 1774 meters (Hochkogel, the highest point on the Gamsstein ). Due to the difficult accessibility of this low mountain range, some primeval forest-like areas have been preserved here, where different, rare species of woodpeckers , owls and birds of prey are at home. Particularly noteworthy is the distinctive predator fauna with brown bear and lynx. These two animal species are probably among the rarest predatory species in Europe and roam the inaccessible areas of the nature park.
Some forest moors form natural open areas, and there are man-made, extensively used pastures.
Built sights
- As the name Hammerbach suggests, some water-driven hammer smithies were built along this stream, and the Wentstein hammer was restored within the nature park and serves as a show smithy. A roofed grill and playground is right next to this facility.
- The Treffenguthammer is also one of the few preserved hammer mills along the Hammerbach. In 2001 the Treffenguthammer was revitalized and Schmiederunde Hollenstein takes care of the operation of the old forge. In the lower part there are the hammer forge and the dwarf forge , where visitors can also actively participate. A multifunctional room has been set up on the upper floor, which can be rented for seminars or celebrations. The outdoor area was expanded to include a playground and a play stream for children. Blacksmithing demonstrations can be organized at any time by prior arrangement. In July and August the Schauschmiede is open every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (as of July 2019)
- Themed trails were laid out in the nature park and a bark hut - a shelter for lumberjacks made from tree bark and a few wooden poles - was built in the Promau . In the past, these served as forest camps.
- 25 km of hiking trails on steep slopes and forest roads lead through the Lower Austria Eisenwurzen Nature Park, plus an additional 4 km Nordic walking route.
- Mountain bike route network with tours of various levels of difficulty.
- The serviced Kitzhütte is located at 1,280 m above sea level and offers overnight accommodation on mattresses for up to 25 people (open from May 25th to October 31st).
- The nature park information center is located in the tourist office on the village square of Hollenstein an der Ybbs
