The Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC), formerly Naval Historical Center , is a command of the US Navy based in Washington, DC ( Washington Navy Yard ).
The mission is to preserve, prepare and disseminate the history of the United States Navy . The command consists of 42 facilities at 13 locations; for example the Navy Department Library, ten museums, a heritage center, the ship USS Constitution ("repair facility and detachment") and the submarine ex-USS Nautilus .
