The National Museum of the United States Navy ( US Navy Museum ) is a Marine Museum of the United States Navy in the former Breech Mechanism Shop of the Naval Gun Factory ( Washington Navy Yard ) in Washington, DC

It is one of 14 museums owned by the Naval History and Heritage Command . It is both a "flagship" museum of the Navy and the only one of the armed forces that completely covers the history of the United States Navy in its chronology.

It was founded in 1961 and opened in 1963.

The main attraction is the Trieste research submarine , which broke the world record for deep-sea diving in 1960 (10,910 meters).
