Kulai District is an administrative unit (Daerah) in Johor State in Malaysia . The capital of the district is the Kulai of the same name . The district includes Kulai Town, Ayer Bemban , Bandar Putra Kulai , Bukit Batu , Indahpura , Kangkar Pulai , Kelapa Sawit , Saleng , Sedenak , Seelong , Senai , Sengkang, and Taman Putri . It belongs to the Iskandar Malaysia Special Economic Zone .
Surname
The name Kulai originated from the Chinese龟 来 - Guīlái meaning turtles come , as turtles often poured into the area after heavy floods.

The district covers an area of 753.75 km², making it the smallest district in Johor, with a share of only 3.96% of the national territory. The district is enclosed by four districts:

history
Until 2007, Kulai was only a sub-district . On January 1, 2008, it became independent as the 9th district of the state and was named Kulaijaya District .
On August 28, 2015, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor ordered the government to change the name to the original "Kulai".

The local government consists of the Kulai Municipal Council and the Johor Bahru Tengah Municipal Council . Below is the local government of Kangkar Pulai and Kulai City. There is an administrative center for Kulai District and Kulai Municipal Council.

population
Malaysian Chinese (马来西亚 华人) of the Hakka dialect group make up 65.4% of the population and settle mainly in Kulai and Senai Town, while Malays make up 26.5% of the population and mainly in the Federal Land Development Authority (Federal Land Development Authority, Lembaga Kemajuan Tanah Persekutuan FELDA) settlements and live in some traditional Malay villages along the Altne Trunk Road. Indians make up 7.8% of the population and work mainly in rubber plantations, factories or their own small businesses.

traffic
The main artery of the district is Skudai Highway or Federal route 1 . Starting from this, Senai Airport Highway 16, Skudai-Pontian Highway 5, Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi 94, Diamond Interchange and Kulai Inner Ring Road and many other roads run. The government is planning a new road, the Kulai-Senai Bypass, to reduce the constant traffic jams.
Kulai was an important stop on Johor Bahru-Kuala Lumpur Trunk Road in the 1970s and 1980s until the North – South Expressway (NSE) E2 opened in 1994. Senai North Interchange ( NSE ) is the connection to Singapore and one of the access points to Mount Pulai Nature Reserve. Senai Airport , Johor International Airport, is also within the district. The Malayan Railway (KTM) has a stop at Kulai railway station .
