Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak
The Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak (DET KODIAK) is both a train of the Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWC) and a naval base of the US Navy near the city of Kodiak on the island of the same name in the US state of Alaska . The base has approximately 55 acres of dense forest, but training also takes place in the neighboring areas near Long Island.
The base was established in 1987 and offers the same climatic conditions as those found in parts of North Korea .

The Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak is responsible for winter combat training for US Navy SEALs .
Training company
In the course of increasing tensions between the Democratic People's Republic and the United States , the training company was strengthened. Meanwhile, six SEAL training classes, each with 40 men, complete a 28-day course per year.
The training section includes survival, orientation and advanced tactical training in forest and coastal regions in winter or arctic climates.
The course follows on from the Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL (BUD / S) Selection . Successful completion is the prerequisite for the following transfer to a SEAL team.
