Ndvungunye (also: Zikodze , Mavuso II. ) Was King of Swaziland from 1780 until his death in 1815.

Life

Ingwenyama Ndvungunye was born around 1760. His mother was Inkhosikati Lomvula Mndzebele .

Domination

Ndvungunye succeeded his father, Ngwane III. , after a very short reign of the Ndlovukati (ruler) LaYaka Ndwandwe . There are few records of his reign. Ndvungunye took up his residence (lilawu) near Mhlosheni at the foot of the hills of Mhlosheni in Shiselweni , (today the southeast of Swaziland near Zombodze ), where his father Ngwane had already lived. His captain and overseer of the royal kraal was Mahagane Hlophe . His Ndlovukati's kraal was in Lobamba and the overseer there was Danilie Nkambule . The most influential chiefdoms are those of the Ndwandwe and Mtetwa. During this time there was little expansion and little consolidation, in contrast to the reign of his son King Sobhuza I. However, the population became prosperous, the herds and as a result the population grew strongly. The settlements that were built during his reign and were under the protection of his chief Sukumbili Mbokane , however, did not form a solid basis for the future Swazi state. After his death they were attacked by the chiefs of Ndwandwe . Ndvungunye died around 1815 after being struck by lightning.

family

Ndvungunye had many wives and many children. The most famous of his wives are Lojiba Simelane and Somnjalose Simelane . The most famous of his sons was Sobhuza I, whom he had with Somnjalose Simelane. However, Lojiba became Queen Mother because she was Somnjalose's older sister. Sobhuza became king after the reign of Lomvula Mndzebele . Ndvungunye was buried in Emakhosini .

Some of his children's names: Ngwenyama Somhlolo ( Sobhuza I. , Ngwane IV.); Malunge ; Magwegwe ; Ngwekati ; Phungodze ; Sobandla ; Sobhiyoze ; Sobokazans ; Ndlovu ; Ngcayini ; Fetshane ; Cebisa ; Mphondvo ; Taba .
