The house at Neckarstrasse 65 in Esslingen am Neckar is a residential and commercial building from the early 20th century.

history

The three-story building with a mansard roof was erected in 1904/05 for the Dupper & Bernhold company, which also had its production facility on the same property and used the rooms on the ground floor as offices and model rooms. From the outside, this use of the Art Nouveau building could not be seen; it looked like a house.

The first and second floors and the lower attic contained apartments, while three servants' rooms and a toilet were housed in the top attic. The richly decorated street facade shows the Baroque elements of the South German Art Nouveau. The corner buttress and the decentralized Konsolerker provided the asymmetric system of the facade, which was typical for that. The stairwell was laid out on the side; it still has the original color windows. On the right side of the house there is a half-timbered veranda extension , which rests on the vividly decorated entrance loggia.

Dupper & Bernhold

Dupper & Bernhold was founded in 1890 by Wilhelm Dupper and Max Bechtle junior and was initially called "Dupper and Bechtle". In 1894 the company's headquarters were relocated to Neckarstrasse 65a; In 1896 Ernst Bernhold from Stuttgart became a partner. At that time a steam engine was also purchased from G. Kuhn in Stuttgart-Berg. After the name change, the products from Dupper & Bernhold were stamped “DBE”. Dupper & Bernhold mainly produced silver-plated tableware such as punch bowls, candlesticks, vases, bowls, etc. Many of their products can be assigned to Art Nouveau. In 1929 the company was taken over by Hanns Knäbel. However, it kept its name until 1949, with the DBE signature being supplemented for a few years by a stylized image of the thick tower . As early as the end of the 19th century, the tin goods industry was gradually displaced by the silver plating industry; after the Second World War the industry declined extremely. A comparison also ended the history of Hanns Knäbel in 1976.

In Esslinger town museum objects are collected from the production of Dupper & Bernhold.
