The Neckura Neckermann Versicherungs-AG was a German insurance group with headquarters in Oberursel . The company operated both life and composite insurance business, with a focus on motor vehicle liability insurance . In the summer of 2002, the individual insurance companies were merged into different companies in the Zurich Group Germany .

History and background

Neckura Insurance was founded in 1964 in cooperation between the Neckermann mail order company and the US insurance company Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company . After Neckermann ran into problems in the 1970s and was finally taken over by Karstadt , the new owner separated from some subsidiaries. In this context, Neckura Insurance went to the then cooperation partner in 1975 as a wholly owned subsidiary. Under the direction of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, the company expanded its direct sales of auto insurance in particular . However, this remained without resounding success, so that from spring 2001 the parent company started looking for a buyer for Neckura insurance. In August 2001, Zurich took over the company, which merged the individual companies into its various subsidiaries by means of a merger agreement of June 2002. Auto Direkt , in particular , was merged with the direct insurer DA Direkt Versicherung , which took over the company headquarters in Oberursel.
