The Nedbank is a South African bank headquartered in Sandton , and one of the largest banks in the country. A first predecessor of the institute was the Nederlandsche Bank en Credietvereeniging voor Zuid-Afrika (NBCV), which was founded in Amsterdam in 1888 and opened a branch in Pretoria in the Transvaal that same year . In 1971 the money house was renamed Nedbank . At the end of the 1980s, the company renamed Nedcor , but changed the name back to Nedbank in 2005. The company's shares have been listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 1969 and on the Namibia Stock Exchange since 2007 . The insurer Old Mutual has been the main owner with a 53% stake since 1986 . The Nedbank subsidiaries include Nedbank Namibia and Imperial Bank South Africa .
