Neddylation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The neddylation (in plants and yeast synonymous Related to ubiquitin , RUB ) is a post-translational modification of proteins .

properties

Neddylation takes place by modifying a protein with Nedd8 ( English neural-precursor-cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated 8 'neural precursor cells-expressed and down-regulated in development', 76 amino acids ), analogous to ubiquitination . Neddylation takes place via an isopeptide bond on the carboxy group of the C -terminal glycine of Nedd8 to the ε- amino group of a lysine in the target protein. MLN4924 is an inhibitor of neddylation.

Neddylation is involved in various cellular processes, e.g. B. in the regulation of the ubiquitin proteasome system , in the transcription and in cell contacts .

Incorrect neddylation is implicated in cancer , neurodegenerative diseases, and heart disease, among other things .
