Nefasite (Tigrinya: ነፋሲት, Arabic نفاسيت) is a city in Eritrea in the Semienawi Kayih Bahri region . The information on the number of inhabitants varies between 5,000 and 8,000 inhabitants.

location

Nefasit is located about 25 km east of Asmara , at an altitude of about 1700 m, on the main Eritrean traffic axis from the coast to the highlands. Nefasit is the last major settlement before the steep ascent to Asmara.

Development

The city is accessed both by the Massaua-Asmara road and the Massaua-Biscia railway line - with its own train station . This is where the journeys of the steam-powered trains from Asmara, which are made for paying tourists, end. Historically, one of the drive stations of the Massaua-Asmara cable car also existed in Nefasit .

Attractions

The city has both a mosque and a Coptic Orthodox church. Immediately above Nefasit is the Debre Bizen monastery , of the utmost importance for the Coptic Orthodox Church.
