Semienawi Kayih Bahri ( ዞባ ሰሜናዊ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ , also written Semenawi Keyih Bahri , Arabic منطقة البحر الأحمر الشمالية, Italian Regione del Mar Rosso Settentrionale ; German  Northern region of the Red Sea ) is a region (Zoba) of Eritrea with 617,000 inhabitants.

The main town of the region is the port city of Massaua .

The region is divided into nine districts:

  2. Dahlak District
  3. Ghelalo District
  4. Foro District
  5. Ghinda District
  6. Karura District
  7. Massawa District
  8. Nakfa District
  9. She'eb District

population

The population of Semienawi Keyih Bahri mainly belongs to the ethnic groups of the Rashaida , Tigre , Saho and Afar (Danakil).

The region covers the northern part of the country's Red Sea coast and has an area of ​​around 27,800 km², including the Dahlak Archipelago . In the northwest it borders on Sudan .

Other cities besides Massaua are Nakfa , Afabet , Ghinda , Karura , Zula and Filfil .
