Maekel ( ዞባ ማእከል , also written Maakel , Arabic إقليم المركزية, Italian Regione Centrale ; German  Central Region ) is a region ( Zoba ) of Eritrea with 778,000 inhabitants.

It includes the state capital Asmara and its surrounding area and is the smallest region in the country with an area of ​​around 1,300 km².
