Negrito Chapuseaux

Negrito Chapuseaux ( José Ernesto Chapuseaux ; born October 17, 1911 in Santo Domingo ; † November 19, 1986 ) was a Dominican singer and composer.

Chapuseaux performed as a duo with the pianist and composer Francisco Simó Damirón in the 1930s and founded the Santo Domingo Jazz Band with him and Billo Frómeta . In 1937 he went to Venezuela with Damirón and Frométa, as they founded the Billo's Happy Boys orchestra . In 1938 he sang the song Taboga in the Laboratorios Nacionales feature film of the same name . In Panama he met the actress and singer Silvia De Grasse , whom he married.

In 1945 Chapuseaux founded the Trio Los Alegres Tres . The group performed successfully in Panama in the 1960s and was engaged for one season in Yolanda Herrera's Cabaret El Sombrero . The musicians recorded Por un Maní and became known as Los Reyes del Merengue . Chapuseaux worked with the Los Alegres for a long time in Puerto Rico and made numerous recordings. In 1959 he recorded the LP Tres Viejos Amigos with Damirón and Frómeta and an orchestra in the studios of the Beltone Recording Corporation .
