Neil E. Schore
Neil Eric Schore (born March 6, 1948 in Newark (New Jersey) ) is an American chemist ( organic chemistry ).
Schore went to school in the Bronx and Ridgefield, New Jersey , studied chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in 1969 and received his PhD from Columbia University in 1973 on photographic processes in organic chemistry with Nicholas J. Turro . As a post-doctoral student , he worked at Caltech in Robert Bergman's laboratory until 1976 . In 1976 he became a professor at the University of California, Davis .
From 1981 to 1985 he was a Camille and Henry Dreyfuss Teacher Scholar and in 1989 he received his university's Distinguished Teaching Award.
Schore has now retired - his last publication was published in 2013. His research focused on the attachment of polymers to organic substrates in order to change their reactivity , with applications in organic synthesis and reactions catalyzed by transition metals .
Since 1994 Schore has been co-author of a popular textbook on organic chemistry with Peter Vollhardt , whom he met as a post-doctoral student at Caltech. According to the Scopus database , he has published 84 publications and achieved a Scopus- h index of 38 as of September 2019 . The most cited (after Scopus cited over 980 times by September 2019) Schore's work is a review article published in 1988 on cycloaddition reactions of alkynes.
He is married to microbiologist Carrie Erickson and has two children.
