Necropolis do Vale de Maria Pais
The necropolis do Vale de Maria Pais ( Portuguese Sepulturas antropomórficas do Vale de Maria Pais or Necropole medievale do Vale de Maria Pais ) south of Antas near Viseu in the Viseu district in Portugal consists of anthropomorphic body graves and a menhir .
The necropolis consists of ten medieval body graves dug in four outcrops .
- Exposure 1: an isolated body grave at the foot of the menhir.
- Exposure 2: two body graves directly on the eastern edge of the path
- Exposure 3: three body graves, two adults and a child, on a small hill about 10 m west of the path
- Exposure 4: four impressive body graves about 15 m east of the path
The menhir, broken in two, was discovered in 1991. It has been restored and rebuilt. A central part is missing and the decoration engraved on the surface indicates an original height of 5.0 to 6.0 m. Its current height is around 3.0 m.
