Nenezi Dağ

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nenezi Dağ is a volcano in the Taurus Mountains in southern Turkey . It is located 1 km east of the village of Berkalar , 14 km northwest of Göllü Dağ . The obsidian that occurs here has been used to make tools since the Paleolithic .

Obsidian occurrence

The obsidian deposits were examined in 2007 and 2008 through field visits . Since 2010 the northern and southern slopes have been systematically examined for archaeological sites. The obsidian is predominantly striped green, with red, reddish brown and brown varieties. Chemical analyzes of the obsidian were published by Blackman. The obsidian was further processed in the Neolithic site of Çakılbaşı at the foot of the mountain.

Finds

Obsidian from Nenezi Dağ was found in the cave of Öküzini , the akeramischen Musular , in Aşıklı Höyük and in Çatal Höyük , but also in Neolithic sites in Syria and the Levant, z. B. Beisamoun and Tel Mevorakh .
