Neptec Design Group Ltd. is a Canadian aerospace company headquartered in Ottawa , in the Canadian province of Ontario . The company develops and builds sensors, camera systems, simulation software and remote-controlled robot systems for the aerospace industry for the civil and military industries. In addition to its headquarters in Ontario, the company has a branch in Houston , Texas in the United States.

history

The company was founded in September 1990. The company's areas of responsibility initially consisted of the development of software solutions for the processing and analysis of photographs from earth observation satellites and other spacecraft. Furthermore also other engineering services. Due to the new requirements of the American space agency NASA, which required a special camera system to build the International Space Station (ISS), Neptec developed the Advanced Space Vision System (ASVS). The prototype (ASVS) was presented to NASA in Houston in 1992 . That was the first system of its kind which has proven itself very well. Due to this positive development, the company was able to secure further orders from the American space agency (NASA) as well as from other public and military agencies. In 1995 Neptec delivered an improved system, which NASA brought with the space shuttle Atlantis to the Russian space station MIR . Neptec received a ten-year contract for the delivery and development of camera systems and sensors for the International Space Station (ISS) as well as for the Space Shuttle spaceships. Neptec becomes general contractor for the American space agency (NASA). On March 11, 2013 it was announced that Neptec would develop and manufacture the navigation cameras for the European Mars mission ExoMars Rover . The Mars mission is planned for 2022 Template: future / in 2 years.

developments

Space technology

Neptec received the highest awards from NASA for quality products of highly complex systems. Neptec developed for space travel:

  • Space Vision System (SVS): simulation software
  • Laser Camera System (LCS): A camera system that is installed on the robot arm of the space shuttle.
  • TriDAR : An observation, distance and measurement system with which docking procedures at the ISS can be monitored and for other areas of application.
  • Juno Rover: remotely controlled, partly autonomous, robot systems for exploring other planets.
  • Hawkeye: Laser system for measuring distances
  • Long Range Optical Sensor: a camera unit for small and microsatellites
  • REACT Processor Card
  • Hawkeye Processor Card
  • Long Range Infrared Camera: High-performance infrared camera
  • ExoMars : navigation camera

Military technology

For military use, the company developed:

  • OPAL
  • 3D ISR
  • Threat Detection: Target exploration
  • Electrical Impedance Tomography

Industry technology

For industrial purposes, the company developed:

  • Laser Metrology System (LMS)
  • Transport, technology solutions for rail transport
  • Drilling platforms and underwater technology
  • Mining technologies

rover

On November 23, 2010, the company won a $ 11.5 million tender from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to plan and develop a remote-controlled robotic vehicle to be used on alien planets. The rover is scheduled to be completed and tested in 2012. The prototype of this rover, named Artemis JR Rover , was presented to the public on June 13, 2012 with additional components from NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
