The Nesselgrund Viaduct (also known as the Nesselgrund Bridge) is a railway overpass on the Görlitz – Dresden line at route kilometers 95.483 over the Nesselgrundweg in Dresden-Klotzsche . The Nesselgrund is a side valley of the Prießnitz and leads into the Dresdner Heide .

construction

The bridges completed in 1999 and 2018 are integral reinforced concrete frame structures with three bridge spans. The pillars have a deep foundation made of reinforced concrete bored piles.

history

The first structure was erected in 1845 as a bridge with stone pillars and a wooden structure. In 1853 it was converted into a three-arched vaulted bridge. From 1912 to 1913, in the course of the three-track expansion of the Dresden-Neustadt - Dresden-Klotzsche section, a further three-arched vaulted bridge was added on the east side (with an extra vault in each abutment).

On the last day of the Second World War , May 8, 1945, German troops blew up both bridges at around 6:20 a.m. Thus was the station Klotzsche after the war to the head station from the east and all cargo had to be unloaded in Klotzsche. As early as July 1945, single-track rail operations could be started on a provisionally rebuilt wooden structure.

In the summer of 1948, the western vault bridge was completely repaired by VEB Hoch-, Ingenieur- und Tiefbau Dresden . The eastern bridge was only rebuilt in 1999 as a reinforced concrete bridge by the Hentschke Bau company in the course of the construction of the Dresden S-Bahn to the airport .

From July 19 to 22, 2016, the vault bridge from 1853, which was repaired in 1948, was demolished. Then, by March 2018, a new reinforced concrete building in the style of the neighboring building erected in 1999 was carried out by the Hentschke Bau company . In advance, the demolition of the 163-year-old arch bridge was controversial due to its role as a “gateway to the Dresden Heath ” and its classification as a cultural monument according to the Saxon Monument Protection Act. In particular, the severe damage to the pillars and abutments led DB Netz AG to decide to give preference to a new replacement instead of renovating the existing structure. The construction costs amounted to approx. € 6 million, provided from federal funds and funds from Deutsche Bahn. The commissioning of the new structure took place on April 8, 2018.
