NetBus is a remote maintenance tool for Microsoft Windows that is mostly used illegally.

In its functionality it corresponds to Back Orifice , but has more options. It was written by the Swede Carl-Fredrik Neikter in Delphi , who published the first version in mid-March 1998. The program is currently available in versions 1.60, 1.70 and as NetBus 2.01 Pro.

Features and function

Like all remote maintenance programs, NetBus consists of a client and a server program which is used to control the remote computer. The ports used can be configured variably from version 1.7. Version 1.6 uses a fixed port.

NetBus offers the following functions on the installed computer on which the server was installed:

  1. Record keystrokes
  2. Activation of a "key click" and deactivation of certain characters
  3. Mouse control
  4. Open and close the CD-ROM drive
  5. Generation of "error, warning and info messages"
  6. Starting applications and programs
  7. Opening web pages ( urls )
  8. Taking a screenshot (as a BMP or JPEG file)
  9. Play WAV files
  10. Recordings via a connected microphone
  11. Tampering with the file system , such as
    1. Copy,
    2. Clear,
    3. Rename,
    4. Search
  12. Upload and download files
  13. Show and close all open windows
  14. Reading out system information
  15. Restart the computer
