netdoktor.at is an Austrian health portal . The aim of netdoktor.at is to convey medical information in a language that is easy to understand.

Content

The portal offers independent medical information for patients and interested laypeople. A constantly growing network of Austrian doctors ensures the professional quality of netdoktor.at. The texts created and updated by the medical department are checked and revised by the appropriate doctors. Editorial independence is one of the main principles of the portal. To ensure this, there is a sharp demarcation between editorial staff on the one hand and management and sales on the other. Sponsors and advertisers have no way of influencing the content of netdoktor.at.

“The classic health portal offers health information. In the “NetDoktor” (netdoktor.at), for example, you can find a short description of the symptom, the possible causes and illnesses as well as answers to the question: When do you have to see a doctor? What does the doctor? What can you do yourself?"

- Bioethics Commission at the Federal Chancellery , Participatory Medicine and Internet, p. 9

The aim is to promote the autonomy of patients and their ability to care for themselves. These were defined by the bioethics commission of the Austrian Federal Chancellery as desirable goals in the context of preventive health care.

history

The idea of netdoktor.at goes back to the doctor Carl Brandt. Together with the journalist Rune Bech , he founded the Danish portal NetDoktor in 1997/98 with the aim of giving everyone access to up-to-date and understandable medical information.

The concept was subsequently exported to Norway, Germany , Austria, Sweden and Great Britain, at the time the NetDoktor group was the largest European health portal. The registered office is in Denmark. In 1999, the trained physician Christian Maté took over the medical management and editor-in-chief for the Austrian branch. In 2001 he himself took over 60 percent of the shares and the operational management of the now independent company. Telekom Austria is co-owner .

At the end of 2012, the AHHV-Verlag, behind the free newspaper " Heute ", bought netdoktor.at under the direction of Eva Dichand . This was followed by a visual and technical restart of the site in summer 2013. Maté himself remained editor-in-chief until the beginning of 2014. He was followed on an interim basis by Mag. Christof Hinterplattner. In March 2014, internist Ludwig Kaspar joined the netdoktor team and took over the medical management of the platform. Kaspar was previously the head of cardiology at the Hera sanatorium and worked as deputy general director of the Vienna Hospital Association .

From December 2014, the netdoktor magazine was also published as a periodical print product, which is available three times a year free of charge in the removal boxes of the daily newspaper “Heute”. Since 2018, 100-page special magazines have been published, most recently with the titles “Allergies & Intolerances”, “My Baby” and “Naturally Healing”, available in tobacconists and in stores.

At the beginning of 2015 the media manager Ursula Gastinger took over the agendas from Christof Hinterplattner. In the same year, the editor-in-chief went to Elisabeth Mondl, who switched from the healthy.at platform to netdoktor.at. Beginning of 2016 After Mondl left the company, journalist Nicole Kolisch took her place in April 2016. Julia Wild took over the editor-in-chief in October 2018 after she was brought into the team in April 2017 to set up the netdoktor.at platform gesundheittrends.com.

In May 2016 netdoktor.at expanded and put the subsidiary portal workinmed.com online, a job portal for the health industry.
