Netfinity is the name of a server product series from IBM (International Business Machines). The Netfinity series is based on Intel processors .

Netfinity Server 4000r

The Netfinity 4000R is a host from this series. It is one height unit high and therefore takes up little space in a 19 ″ rack . The motherboard is dual processor capable (DP), which makes it possible to install two Intel Pentium III CPUs for slot 1 with 500 MHz.

A disadvantage of the Netfinity is the keyboard / mouse / monitor connection, as a special KVM cable is required. The Netfinity 4000R has, among other things, two 10 / 100Base-T Ethernet interfaces, two USB ports (which, however, have no function in this series with Microsoft Windows Server 2003) and two PCI riser slots. There are also two RS232, a floppy and an LPT port available (floppy and LPT are not routed to the outside). On the front there are various control LEDs (Power, Eth1, Eth2, Stack KVM, HDD, OS, Temp).

Since the server offers the option of connecting several hosts of the same type with just one KVM cable, there is also a button on the front for selecting the host to be used. A reset can also be carried out using a small yellow button on the front. The power switch can only be reached at the rear. The server is cooled by a maximum of seven Sunon fans (power supply unit, CPU (max. 2), 4 fronts). The number of fans makes the server very loud, which is rather quiet compared to the e-server series.
