Nether Ardgrain is a farmhouse near the Scottish village of Ellon in the Council Area of Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The barony Ardgrain was created in 1528th In 1629 John Kennedy of Kermuck bought the property and had a house built there. Nether Ardgrain is difficult to date. It may still be the house built in 1629 today. However, it is unclear whether CR 1664 built a completely new house or just redesigned the existing one. The woodwork inside dates from 1751 and was commissioned by John Edward Bean .

description

The farmhouse is isolated around 2.5 kilometers north of Ellon. With its cool, sparse design, it is one of the buildings in the Scottish Northeast that best embodies the true Scottish architectural style. The facades of the two-story farmhouse are plastered with Harl . The plate placed above the central entrance door shows the royal coat of arms in connection with the year 1664 and the monogram CR. The lintel, on the other hand, shows the year 1751 and the monogram JEB (John Edward Bean). Another plate bears the inscription “HOW HAPPY WOVLD THE HVSBANDMAN BE IF HE KNEW HIS OWN GOOD. LET IMPROVEMENTS AND LIBERTY FLOVRISH ". A sundial is set above it . A one-story kitchen extension continues on the right.
