history
On December 16, 1983, Stadtwerke Düsseldorf Netz GmbH (SWDN), based in Düsseldorf, was entered in the commercial register of the Düsseldorf District Court under the name “Umschlaggesellschaft für Kraftwerkbrennstoffe mbH” under HRB 18633 . The changes from the new version of the articles of association were entered on July 17, 2007. On July 1, 2007, the company with 80 employees was spun off from Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG as part of the legal unbundling and thus separated from generation and sales, as stipulated by the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). Netz GmbH leased the electricity, gas, water and district heating networks from Stadtwerke Düsseldorf and operates them independently. In addition to the tasks of the control and reporting office, the area of responsibility includes, in particular, the functions of asset management , network usage management and the necessary commercial functions. A profit and loss transfer agreement was concluded between Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG and Netz Gesellschaft on July 19, 2007 with effect from January 1, 2007. The loss transfer from shareholders amounted to € 8,652,000 in 2016; in 2017 it was € 0.
A further 630 employees were transferred from Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG to Stadtwerke Düsseldorf Netz GmbH on January 1, 2011.
As of April 1, 2014, the company was renamed Netzgesellschaft Düsseldorf mbH (NGD). The background was that the grid company is both a distribution network operator and part of a vertically integrated energy supply company and a mix-up between the distribution network operator and the sales activities of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG can be ruled out (Section 7a (6) EnWG).

The average daily output was 164,688 m³ / day. In the water sector, the transport volumes increased from 2017 to 2018 by 1.3 million m³ to 52.8 million m³
District heating
