On December 16, 1983, Stadtwerke Düsseldorf Netz GmbH (SWDN), based in Düsseldorf, was entered in the commercial register of the Düsseldorf District Court under the name “Umschlaggesellschaft für Kraftwerkbrennstoffe mbH” under HRB 18633 . The changes from the new version of the articles of association were entered on July 17, 2007. On July 1, 2007, the company with 80 employees was spun off from Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG as part of the legal unbundling and thus separated from generation and sales, as stipulated by the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). Netz GmbH leased the electricity, gas, water and district heating networks from Stadtwerke Düsseldorf and operates them independently.
