Network planning

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As network planning generally means the determination of usable traffic services infrastructure. In the aviation sector, the term is interpreted more broadly. Here it encompasses the entire product planning process.

Public transport

Network planning is the basic level of service planning in public transport . In this step, the infrastructure that can be used by the transport offer is determined. This determination is followed by line planning , which determines the routes to be traveled from the total possible network. Due to the dependency on infrastructure, network planning only takes place in very long-term periods. Planning a network on the " green field " only rarely happens. As a mathematical tool for the description of the network is the graph theory used, in which the network to one of nodes and edges formed graph is transferred.

Airlines

Network planning for airlines is being expanded. She is responsible for the "production planning". In coordination with the sales department, it makes decisions about the flight destinations to be approached, including turnstiles , the frequency of frequencies (e.g. twice a day at the edge of the day, overnight stays), the timing of the individual flights and the aircraft to be used that meets the demand.

The goal of network planning is the economic optimization of the entire network of flight connections. This means that individual route suboptima are consciously accepted in favor of an overall network optimum.

The exact planning of the departure and arrival times of a flight schedule season is carried out as part of the flight schedule optimization, taking into account a large number of restrictions (e.g. capacities, rotations, crew, slots , maintenance).

As a result of the network planning, the finished flight plan is published and made available to customers in the travel agency's reservation systems or via the Internet.
