The New Apostolic Church Brandenburg

The church building of the congregation of the New Apostolic Church in Brandenburg an der Havel is a modern hall church in the Neustadt district .

history

The New Apostolic Church Congregation was established after 1899. Regular services took place from 1901. The first Brandenburg parish leader was the priest Wilhelm Schmidt. Over the decades, various buildings and meeting rooms have been used by the community. She found her first permanent home in 1940 after a former tattersall was converted into a church in Packhofstrasse in the Neustadt district. Since the community continued to grow after the end of the Second World War , a second community was founded in Brandenburg in 1951 in the Görden district . After they initially used a cemetery chapel for their services, a church building in Lilienweg was consecrated in 1956. After the church building in Packhofstrasse had to be closed due to construction defects, it was decided to build a new building for the community. For this purpose, a plot of land was bought on Mühlengraben. Karin Reimann was the architect of the church building. The foundation stone was laid in 2010, and the new building was inaugurated in 2011.

Building

The structure is a modern, plastered reinforced concrete structure painted in white. A 17 meter high church tower rises spirally from the church hall and ends in a metal cross. The Christian symbol of the fish was taken up for the community hall and the floor plan was modeled on it. The hall was designed to be elliptical and the south side of the sanctuary was modeled on the shape of a dorsal fin. The tower, rising in a spiral shape, in turn appears as an eye when viewed from above. Several high and simple rectangular windows illuminate the hall and the chancel . At the eastern end of the ellipse of the church hall is a flat and simple porch with the main entrance.

Furnishing
