New special
From 1993 to the mid-1990s, the Neue Spezial newspaper was the German edition of the Dutch newspaper De Nieuwe, which only contained unbelievable and fictitious reports. It can thus be assigned to tabloid journalism .
The weekly newspaper was published by the Amsterdam publisher Uitgeverij de nieuwe amsterdammer. The editor-in-chief and publisher was Joachim Steinkamp .
The topics covered included, for example:
- Extra limbs (woman has a third eye - in the back of her head!)
- Face of fashion model melted in the sun
- Pastor reveals: There is no more space in heaven
- Resourceful farmer invents manure motor
- Finally several wives: the truck driver can be converted into a Turk
- Lost limbs (angler finds his thumb, which had been severed in a boat accident, in the stomach of a carp!)
- Swallowed objects
- Woman ate too much licorice (Our kid is black)
- Unusual family relationships (my parents are siblings)
- Animal records (cat runs 6,000 kilometers back home!)
- Unlikely cruel fates (blind man can see again - and puts his wife in front of the door!)
- Outrageous injustices (woman kisses frog - AIDS!)
- Insurance companies that replace abducted children with new ones
- Animal psychologists who turn homosexual pit bulls into straight men
- Terrifying scientific findings (38 percent of German men only fake orgasm while masturbating!)
- Elvis lives
Despite initial success, the Neue Spezial disappeared from the German market in 1995 because, according to its creator, it was impossible to “bind potential advertising customers to such a sensational environment in the long term”.
The original mother of all this fictional news is probably the American Weekly World News .
