Neue Wiener Werkstätte is a product line of KAPO Möbelwerkstätten GmbH for furniture and upholstered furniture, the manufacture of which the Austrian company has specialized in since 1927.

history

In 1927 Karl Polzhofer I founded the small KAPO joinery in Pöllau ( Styria ). The third generation of the family company made the move to a medium-sized company at the end of the 1970s. In 1986, KAPO Möbelwerkstätten GmbH took over the Viennese upholstered furniture manufacturer Harald Jodlbauer and with him the “Neue Wiener Werkstätte” brand. The claim of the historic Wiener Werkstätte is reflected in the products of NWW in the combination of traditional craftsmanship and quality with contemporary design.

At the end of February 2018, the KAPO furniture workshops filed for bankruptcy.

Companies

Today the company is in the hands of the fourth generation of the Polzhofer family and employs around 250 people at three production locations in Pöllau . Managing Director Stefan Polzhofer heads KAPO Holding GmbH, which runs the two operative subsidiaries "KAPO Fenster und Doors GmbH" (production of windows and doors made of wood and wood-aluminum) and "KAPO Möbelwerkstätten GmbH" (production of furniture, upholstered furniture and home accessories under the Brand "Neue Wiener Werkstätte") is superordinate. The main markets in which the products are sold include Austria, Germany , Switzerland and Russia .

Products

The company produces furniture, upholstered furniture and home accessories under the Neue Wiener Werkstätte brand . The products are developed in collaboration with designers such as Hans Hopfer, Wolfgang Joop or Annette Hinterwirth and made to measure. One of the hallmarks of the brand is individual, tailor-made complete furnishings in private houses, hotels, restaurants, offices and public facilities. An in-house property department specializes in handling large-scale projects and works with the architects from planning to production and assembly.

NWW Design Award

In the tradition of the principles of the historic Wiener Werkstätte, the company initiated a design prize that recognizes the achievements of designers and architects in the field of furniture and furnishings, and which will be presented for the first time in 2012 and awarded every two years. The first NWW Design Award 2012 received 297 applications from 20 countries. In 2014, 196 projects from 14 countries were submitted.
