Barbara Sternthal

Barbara Sternthal (born January 27, 1961 in Knittelfeld ) is an Austrian author , translator and editor .

Life

Sternthal, the daughter of a pedagogue and an artist (her stepfather), came to Vienna in 1970 , where she graduated from the higher education institute for economic professions in Vienna- Döbling (HLW 19). She then studied theater studies , journalism and philosophy at the University of Vienna and received her doctorate with excellent success in 1992 with Ulf Birbaumer and Wolfgang Greisenegger.

During her studies she initially worked in an advertising agency and then for the Vienna Symphony Orchestra before joining George Tabori's "Theater Der Kreis". After its completion, she worked on this unique Viennese theater experiment in her dissertation. After completing her doctorate, Barbara Sternthal worked at Christian Brandstätter Verlag with a diverse range of responsibilities that expanded with increasing experience. She accompanied numerous book projects - including a large number of collaborations with international publishers - as a project manager, edited part of the program, designed a series of art books with publisher Christian Brandstätter, as well as the publisher's preview that appears twice a year, for which she wrote and was numerous texts from 1997 editor-in-chief of the publishing house. In 2000 she decided to become self-employed.

Today Barbara Sternthal is a recognized non-fiction author and has authored well-known biographies (including about Sigmund Freud and Gustav Klimt ) as well as books on architecture, design and cultural history as well as travel books (including Venice, Paris and London). She is also a sought-after translator from English and Italian.
