The new building is a building on Rathausplatz in Augsburg . It was built in 1614 as part of the urban renewal program by Elias Holl .

history

Previously was at this point, the butcher house, the early 17th century at the bottom Perlachberg in the form of Stadtmetzg was built. The first plans to build the new building go back to 1593. In addition to Elias Holl, Johann Matthias Kager may also have been involved in the designs. The two-storey facade, referring to Italian models, was originally characterized by arched arcades on the ground floor and blind pillars on the upper floor. Contemporary photos show the early use as a commercial building. In the foreground was Ludwigsplatz (today Rathausplatz) with the Augustus Fountain , which was built in 1589 and where, among other things, the egg market was held.

In 1876 two storeys were added and the front facade was redesigned. After the new building was destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt according to the old model. The original condition of 1614 was restored, but one axis lower.
