history

The old Jewish community in Bad Segeberg was smashed during the Nazi era, and its members were expelled or murdered. Luise Dorothea Johanna Goldstein, a member of the community, was buried for the last time in 1936 in the old Jewish cemetery , which was laid out by this community in 1792 . After that, Jewish life in Bad Segeberg died out. At the beginning of 2002 a small Jewish community was founded in the city. Its catchment area extends over the Bad Segeberg district. The cemetery was set up in the year the community was founded with financial support from the Jewish Culture and Promotion Association of the City of Bad Segeberg and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. In 2006 there were around 150 people in the community. In the meantime, several burials have taken place in the new cemetery.
