The New Jewish Cemetery is the cemetery of the Jewish community in Erfurt . It was created in 1871 after the old cemetery on Cyriaksstrasse could no longer be expanded. It is located on the edge of the Steigerwald next to the Thüringenhalle , Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße 3, and is still used today as a burial place.

description

The good place is on a gently sloping terrain and is surrounded by a fence. At the upper end is the mourning hall . On the left in front of it, the community has erected a memorial stone for the community members murdered in the Shoah .

In addition to numerous gravestones shaped in the style of the respective time, some specially designed stones stand out, such as that of the Erfurt sculptor Hans Walther , whose crystalline forms reflect the artist's Cubist approach to style.

In addition to the grave sites for citizens of the city, numerous gravestones belong to families from those surrounding cities and towns that do not have their own Jewish cemeteries.
