The New Town Hall ( Nowy Ratusz in Polish ) is a building in the neo-Renaissance style in the Lower Silesian town of Legnica ( German Liegnitz ). It is located at today's Plac Słowiański (formerly Friedrichsplatz ).

history

Due to the expansion of the city of Liegnitz at the end of the 19th century, a new, larger town hall was required, as the old town hall could no longer meet the modern demands of a city administration.

According to a design by the architect Paul Öhlmann, a neo-renaissance building for the city administration was built between 1902 and 1905 south of the Peter and Paul Church on Friedrichsplatz. A building with four wings, two inner courtyards and a monumental tower was planned. Due to financial bottlenecks, only part of the project could be implemented.

After Silesia became part of Poland, a Polish city administration was established in the town hall from 1947. The building has been a listed building since April 1981.
