Nevin Çokay

Nevin Çokay (* 1930 in Istanbul ; † July 24, 2012 in Foça , Turkey) was a Turkish painter.

She spent her childhood in different regions of Turkey. In 1947 she began her studies in Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu's studio at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, which she graduated in 1953.

Her first exhibition took place in the Istanbul gallery “Maya” (1953). From 1950 to 1953 she was a member of the State Choir for Turkish Folk Music under the direction of Nedim Otyam. In addition to participating in concerts and folkloric events in Italy, among others, she also worked as a voice actress and acted as an actress in the film “Yurda Dönüş”. After 1954 she devoted herself entirely to painting.

Her pictures have been shown in special exhibitions at the State Museum for Paintings and Sculptures in Istanbul and the Biennale for Young Artists in Paris. In 1961 she won the second prize at the Istanbul Art Festival.

In 1979 she received an invitation from Holland, where her pictures were exhibited in various museums and galleries in Deventer, The Hague and Rotterdam for a period of one year. Her pictures can be found in addition to state and private collections in Germany and Holland, in the State Museum for Paintings and Sculptures Istanbul, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Istanbul City Council, the University of Istanbul and the Umjetnicka Gallery of what was then Yugoslavia.

Nevin Çokay taught art and art history at high schools for 17 years and gave private painting lessons in studios in various galleries for 10 years.

Until her death she worked in her private studio in Foça , Izmir province . She was married and has a son.
