New Brunswick Coal and Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New Brunswick Coal and Railway was a railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It was founded on April 3, 1901 and built the western extension of the Central Railway from Chipman towards the provincial capital Fredericton . The standard gauge line went into operation from Chipman to Minto (20.3 kilometers) in 1903 , but construction work was then stopped.

In the same year the merger with the Central Railway took place, which increased the route length to 92 kilometers. The Canadian government bought the company on April 14, 1905. The planned extension towards Fredericton was later built by the Fredericton and Grand Lake Coal and Railway . The Canadian Pacific Railway leased both companies on November 4, 1914 and continued operations. The route has now been closed.
