New Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

New Church was a band around the British blues musician Alexis Korner .

The band was formed in 1968 after Korner split up his group Free At Last . The young Danish blues musician Peter Thorup from the Beefeaters was there . Other members included Nick South, Ray Warleigh, Annette Brox, Per Frost and Colin Hodgkinson.

On July 5, 1969, New Church were the opening act for the Rolling Stones concert in London's Hyde Park . This was the Rolling Stones 'first concert two days after Brian Jones' death . For New Church it was also the band's first public appearance.

An album was recorded called Both Sides because it consists of both live and studio recordings. It was released in May 1970.

Due to a relative lack of success, Alexis Korner broke up the band in 1970 and founded the big band CCS with Thorup
